HERRING
Herring, help wanted, and tours, oh my!
1. HERRING! There's no commercial herring season this year but there is no reason why everyone reading this shouldn't be able to go out and catch their own. Herring spawn close to shore all over the bay in January and February and you don't even need a boat to catch them, just a throw net. We've been waiting on tenterhooks since the Candlestick herring teaser a couple weeks ago, which was beautiful but short-lived. The rains are promising, and in a poetic twist, I'm betting that the "silver darlings" might just show up on the shores of Sausalito during the Sausalito Herring Festival on January 27th (now how cool would that be?) where I'll be singing ribald oceanic odes to our favorite clupeid with The Fishwives. Local restaurants will be serving up herring in a myriad of tasty ways, paired with local beer. That's my kind of day!
2. HELP WANTED! Sea Forager CSF is looking for a part time delivery driver and/or seafood processor at Fisherman's Wharf. No experience necessary, just a willingness to learn, an interest in the ocean, and a sense of humor. Competitive hourly and fishy perks. Email me for more details.
3. COASTAL FORAGING: Still a couple spots left on my February 18th Mega Low Tide Tour in Half Moon Bay (Sea Forager Seafood CSF members get 50% off tour tickets!) Gift certificates available.
3. KNOW YOUR FISHERMAN: If you're still looking for a delicious, ethical seafood source, check out my sustainable seafood CSF with locations all around the SF Bay Area pickup locations, and drop me a line if you'd like to host (and enjoy free fish.)
Until next time, fish on!
